The Homeschooling Mother’s Journal

In my life this week…

This week, we have had a pretty busy week again. We don’t normally take the kids Trick or Treating, we do an activity instead, but we decided this year to take them for a bit.

Then we spent a whole day in the big city, while hubby worked. Went around to a few stores we hadn’t been in for awhile and did some browsing for some Christmas Ideas, and then hit our favorite place to hang out. The bookstore!

The kids had a play date, and I got to have adult time. Smile We did some cooking to prepare for the weekend.

Girls had a Sock Hop which was lots of fun for them and me. They got to hang out with their friends, and I got to spend time with my friends. Win, Win! Plus watching some of us dance (in vision.. YMCA, and the Chicken Dance) was just hilarious!

Saturday was Goat School. Our 4H group put on a goat school for the local community and 4H’s. A locally know place called “Goat School” came in and taught. The kids learned lots of stuff about goats, like how to care for them, feed them, breed them, etc. It was really informational.. Monkey Man was the only one to attend, but he absorbed the information like a sponge!

(I took the time to chat with another mom, and catch up on some work)

In our homeschool this week…

We are right on track and doing really well. I’m really not stressing as bad as last year.

The kids are doing great with their studies.

Monkey Man is doing awesome with Latin, (and it has become him and grammie’s secret language) He is also enjoying the new math book I got for him. (More to come on that soon)

Middle Monkey is doing good, and reading a lot more this year. Still not a big reader like I would love to see, but doing better than last year. She is also doing wonderful at Math, and Grammar.

Little Monkey is doing good. Struggling a bit more this year, with trying to right a bit neater. Spelling is a bit of a challenge with her, but she is coming along nicely. Looking for a good Math book for her right now. (Any suggestions for 1st grade?)

Overall I am very pleased with the way this year is going. Smile

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I’ve learned that if the curriculum is not the right choice for your child, its going to be a long road. Trial and error. So if you can get sample sheets do some with your child before buying the whole curriculum.

I am inspired by…

Moms who have been doing this for awhile. I learn something new all the time. I am constantly in awe of the people who have been doing this for years.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

This week we really are not going any where to grand. Maybe a play date and a visit to the library. This next weekend we are going to be helping with a craft fair put on by our County 4H.

My favorite thing this week was…

Seeing my kids have so much fun with their friends! I love when they have a nice play date, and very little problems. Smile

What’s working/not working for us…

Don’t really have anything working or not working for us.

Questions/thoughts I have…

I’m looking for a good math book for my 1st grader.

Things I’m working on…

Nothing much right now… some craft ideas for the upcoming craft fairs.

I’m reading…

When Christmas Comes… by Debbie MaComber

I’m cooking…

Nothing… I have left over Beef Stew from our Goat School yesterday, and left over spaghetti from last night.

I’m grateful for…

Supportive friends.. Smile

Oh, we wanted do attend Goat School, but it would be a very long drive for us so we opted not to do it. :( Sounds like fun! (We don't plan on having goats, but the kids love this stuff, especially my girl.)

1st grade math? Well, we're using Saxon, but I know that doesn't always work for kids. I find it thorough and the kids don't mind it so much.

Have a great week! It's looking WARM! Woot!

I love this! What a great way to share with everyone what you have been doing in school, home, basically your life!
