Donkey Kong Country DVD Review:

When I was a kid, and yes that was really a long time ago . . . I had the Donkey Kong game on the Nintendo. I loved it, but I could never conquer it. When I had kids of my own, I got it again for the DS. I still can’t get very far!

Recently I was given the opportunity to review the Donkey Kong Country Movie which is came out on DVD on August 20, 2013!!! Of course I had to check it out! I knew, my kids would just love it too.

What I got :

  • Donkey Kong Country DVD
  • 80’s Party Supplies

The party supplies were a pretty big hit with my girls! Little Monkey, loved the glasses!!

 IMG_20130828_133414_810

Little Monkey thought the fish net gloves were just “SO COOL”! Wouldn’t they be shocked to know that back in the 80’s they were super popular?!

IMG_20130828_133656_900

About Donkey Kong Country DVD:

The movie is based on the cartoon series, and the popular video game. I never saw the cartoon series when I was growing up.

The DVD includes four episodes and runs approximately 90 minutes. The four episodes are:

  • Bad Hair Day
  • Ape Foo Young
  • Booty and the Beast
  • Barrel, Barrel, Who’s Got the Barrel

It is an animated movie, that looks a lot like a video game. Which makes sense, so its not super high quality. All and all if you ever played the video game, I think you will relate to this movie more. It really reminded me a lot of it, and it had the same cute music.

Our Thoughts:

My Monkey’s really loved watching it, and they did a lot of laughing. We thought it was super cute. I was a bit thrown by the outfit Donkey Kong’s girlfriend is wearing, and the dancing she was doing, but the kids didn’t really notice I don’t think. I don’t remember if this was in the original video game or not.

All and all, we really had a fun 80’s night watching Donkey Kong Country!

You can get this DVD at most retail stores for $9.99!

You can find more information at Kaboom Entertainment!

*We received the Donkey Kong DVD & Party package from Phase4Flims in exchange for our honest review. All opinions are 100% mine or my monkey’s.

Oh my! I just got to look at an IKEA catalog
this week, and I found so many awesome things I would

TOS Crew: Notgrass Review

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/2013TOSCrew/Notgrass/notgrass_logo_zps18b23376.jpg

History is a favorite in our house. My son and I absolutely love to read and learn about history. When we were offered to review America the Beautiful curriculum by Notgrass Company, we jumped on it.

About the Notgrass Company:

They has a wide selection of curriculum choices, like Art, Economics, Government, English, and more! Most of their products are meant for Middle School children to High School children. They do have some products for K-8th as well. The Notgrass family started homeschooling in 1990, and first began to publish in 1999. You can read more about each family member here.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/2013TOSCrew/Notgrass/Untitled-1_zps4833bafe.jpg

America the Beautiful Curriculum Package:

America the Beautiful was written by Charlene Notgrass. This is meant to be one year, American History, Geography and Literature course rolled into one. This particular curriculum is geared toward 5th-8th grade.

Helping your child move through the American History chronologically and helping them remember key events, people, and places!

This curriculum package offers 6 books with it:

  • America the Beautiful Part 1
  • America the Beautiful Part 2
  • We the People
  • Maps of America the Beautiful
  • Timeline of America the Beautiful
  • America the Beautiful Answer Key

Now I will tell you a bit about each one!

America the Beautiful Part 1 & 2 are really nice hard cover books. They both have 75 lessons covering life with Europeans, to the civil war, America’s expansion into the lands west of the Mississippi river, and ending with the modern times. Part 1 is 452 pgs, and Part 2 is 572 pgs. Both containing very pretty color and black and white photos.

We the People is also a hard cover book, with black and white photo’s. This book has a collection of 150 original journal entries, newspaper articles, poems, songs, and more from American History. It contains 220 pgs.

Maps of America the Beautiful is full of 30 maps drawn just for this curriculum for your child to complete with each lesson. It is paperback and contains 61 pgs.

Timeline of America the Beautiful is another paperback book with facts that go with the lesson for your child to be able to produce a timeline. This book is 57 pgs.

America the Beautiful Answer Key includes all the answers from the Timeline, Lesson Review, Vocabulary Assignments and Student Workbook! This book contains 55 pgs.

In addition to all that is listed above, you can also purchase two other books to accompany your curriculum. Those two books are:

  • America the Beautiful Student Workbook
  • America the Beautiful Lesson Review

America the Beautiful Lesson Review contains daily reviews of the lesson your child just read. Literature questions, weekly quizzes, etc. This book is designed more for the 7th-8th grade levels. It is spiral bound and contains 110pgs.

How we used the program:

As soon as the box arrived, we were super excited to break into it. It was like Christmas for Monkey Man and I.

The day after it arrived we put it on our schedule for our school day. We chose to read the lessons together. As we love to learn together, and discuss the things we learn. Ask each other questions, and find the answers.

After we would read a lesson, Monkey Man would then work on his lesson review, and map activities. He keeps a separate notebook for his vocabulary assignments. He enjoys the extra puzzles, so on the days we are not reading a lesson, he works on those, and reads his Literature that goes with the previous days lessons.  We used the materials 4 times a week, but only read a new lesson 2 times a week.

Monkey Man’s Thoughts (11yrs old):

He really enjoyed it, he is excited to keep using this curriculum all year. He loves the books, and the pictures that are in it. As far as History curriculum goes, he told me this is his 2nd favorite, maybe even first, it was a tough choice. He also really enjoys the We the People book that accompanies the curriculum. He says that he loves the little extras he gets to read in there.

IMG_20130809_181655_034

My thoughts:

I love that there is not a lot of prep work to go with this curriculum. Essentially if I am busy, he can take the book and go read his lesson and to the work all on his own. We really have enjoyed reading this, and learning about American History. I to, am anxious to keep using this during this school year. I have to say, this is my favorite History curriculum so far!

I would say that it diffidently stays true to its age group. It was a bit to hard for my 3rd grader to do. She still sits in and listens sometimes when we are reading the lesson, but just a tad bit over her head still. We plan to keep it for her to use in the 5th grade though!

I loved the extras that accompanied it too. It wasn’t to much, or overwhelming they all seem to fit in nicely, and just give it that little extra, without it becoming to much!

The lessons are just the right length for them not to be to much as well. Overall I really love this program, and would recommend it to any homeschooling mom! As a still pretty new homeschooler myself (4th year and still trying to figure it all out), I think this is a great choice. Not to overwhelming, not a lot of prep, and not to frustrating.

Price:

As prices go, you really have to choose what works for your family. I am willing to pay more for something if I feel it is a great fit. Or if I can use it for more than one child. This absolutely would be something I would splurge on. I think it is totally worth it!

America the Beautiful Curriculum Package : $99.95

America the Beautiful Student Workbook : $11.95

American the Beautiful Lesson Review : $9.95

TOS Crew: Gryphon House Review

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/Gryphon%20House/gr_zps4f060fb6.jpg

Art is such a wonderful thing. I have 3 kids who really love to dive straight into art! This past month we have been reviewing the Global Art: Activities, Projects, and Inventions from around the world by Gryphon House.

Gryphon House was established in 1971, and started distributing quality children’s books. Today they have nearly 200 titles.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/Gryphon%20House/GH_18827_zps7156a47e.jpg

About the Book:
Global Art: Activities, Projects, and Inventions from Around the World is a 190 page paperback book written by MaryAnn Kohl, and Jean Potter for grades K-5.
This book has lots of art projects using painting, drawing, printing and construction. It includes 130 art ideas from around the world. It covers 7 continents, has a few projects for each one. Each page shares with you a bit about where the craft originated from. There is also an icon for each one to give you a skill level.

What we thought:
As soon as my kids saw this book, they took off running with it. My middle monkey couldn’t wait to see what it had to offer. They all looked through it, telling me the ones they thought they would like the best. Once I wrestled it back from them (HAHA), I looked through the book myself. Upon first glance, I was really impressed with the number of projects, and what they had to offer.
For the purpose of the review we did a few projects (but of course I can’t find the photo’s I took), but since Monkey Man is doing World Geography this year, we are going to tie a few more of these in with that.
Their favorite one so far was doing the Scarab stones from Egypt. They had fun creating those, and then they put them in our garden for decoration.
This book has helped us with some bored rainy days this summer as well. Never know when you may need to pull out a great project to work on.
My kids love this book!

My thoughts:
I really like how this book was laid out. Easy directions that were step by step with illustrations. The materials were all mostly ones I would have on hand, or easily could be found. Which is huge for me, since I don’t like to have to look for rare items, or spend a lot of money on things.
I also think this book would be a great addition to a history curriculum, or geography. As I stated above, we will be using this with Monkey Man when he starts his World Geography in a couple weeks. I’m very excited to be able to tie some of it in.
Overall, I think this is a really well done book. We all have enjoyed it very much!

Price:
You can purchase this Global Art for $16.95 from here.

You can find Gryphon House on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. For more books and ideas!

TOS Crew: Circle Time Review

Website logo photo circletimelogo2_zps58ab71e5.jpg

I’m always looking for ways to improve our homeschool schedule. Or ways to make things run more smoothly. I had the opportunity over the last few weeks to review Circle Time by Preschoolers and Peace.

What is Circle Time:

Is meant for kids of all ages. You bring everyone together for a group teaching time, where you can pray, work, laugh, and just enjoy each other.

This book helps you break down what you are going to do, and how to utilize your time.

Here are a few things you will find in the book . . .

  • Planning Circle Time
  • Strategies for Peaceful Time Together
  • How to Get Your Kids on Board
  • Questions from Other Moms Like You
  • Words of Wisdom
  • Resources
  • Activities
  • Printable Planner Sheet

How we used it:

To implement this we had our “Circle Time” in the morning. We started with calendar time, what chores were expected of them for the day, and if we had any plans for the day. Due to the span of ages of my two monkey’s, we only do science together. We would work on that, and then they would work on  their memorization. Little Monkey is working on Subtraction Facts, and Monkey Man is working on Multiplication (while he is past this, he still struggles to remember them).

Some days we would spice it up with a poem read by one of them, or they picked a song to sing.

I really liked that we came together for about an hour to an hour and a half in the morning before starting our day. Gives us a nice start to the day.

About the Author:

Circle Time is written by Kendra the mom of 8 kids. She started the website Preschoolers and Peace after giving a workshop on how to homeschool older kids with younger kids underfoot. Currently she still writes and speaks to women whenever it is possible.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/Circle%20Time/CircleTimeLogo_zps63dd95c9.jpg

My Thoughts:

I found this e-book to be good. I do wish their was a bit more information on how to get a schedule started, or more how to. I felt a bit lost trying to get it all together and making it work for us. However, maybe I was just overwhelmed.

I think this 33 page e-book would be really good for a first time homeschooler. This would be a great place for them to start.

I only have two children that I homeschool currently, and they are pretty close in age. Therefore, I do not have the underfoot problem of younger children.

I did give this a try just the same. I needed a good way to get our homeschool day going, so I used this to help with the start of our day. This is our peaceful time, and we sit and start with our day.

On the website she has a nice list of resources too.

While this may not have been perfect for us, I do believe this would work great for a bigger family. I think it is a great product overall.

Price:

You can purchase Circle Time e-book for $4.99 here.

TOS Crew Review: Homeschool Programming

 photo logo_zpsfc09b7b4.jpg

As a homeschooling mom, I often worry I’m not focusing on enough areas that my children need to learn. Like the arts, computers, music, and things that I certainly do not have great knowledge in, or can teach well.

Since computers is one of them, I love to find things that can help. Recently we got the chance to review KidCoder Visual Basic Series, from Homeschool Programming.

I choose KidCoder Visual Basic for Monkey Man (11 yrs old)  to try, since he really has limited previous knowledge of this type of thing. This is designed for kids in 6th-8th grade, which was also a perfect match. With the download for this program, we got the Student book, and they offer instructional videos to go along with them.

Frist we had to make sure our computer could handle the program. The minimum requirements are 1.6GHz processor, 1024MB RAM, 1024x768 compatible video card, 3GB available space on the hard drive, and a DVD-ROM drive. With a operating system of Windows XP or higher.  We had all of that at least. My husband being a computer geek, and gamer, there was no doubt!

After making sure everything was all set and the program was downloaded, I proceeded to print off the student book for him. So it was easier to read, and he could make notes. The program was very easy to download, and open. Hubby did the downloading part, and then we let Monkey Man proceed from there.

A great aspect to this program is he can read and do the lessons all on his own. I don’t have to be here for him to get them done. So I was able to walk away and help Little Monkey on some of her lessons.

There are some things that your child should already know before starting this. Such as knowing the basic parts of a computer, how to use a mouse and keyboard, and how to navigate and use simple programs.

The program chapters include the following. . .

  • Introduction to Computers
  • Get Your Feet Wet
  • Exploring Visual Basic Programs
  • Data Types and Variables
  • Basic Flow Control
  • Getting User Input
  • Working the Numbers
  • Working with Strings
  • Using the Debugger
  • Loops in Programs
  • Functions
  • Arrays and Structures
  • Distributing Your Programs
  • Putting it All Together

How the program works. . .

Your child is able to just sit down at the computer and start their lessons. They start with watching a video or read a text lesson. After they finish with that, they then do the assignments. Total there are 14 lessons, that then are divided into 48 chapters. Each Chapter ends with a review, and a “your turn” section. In the “your turn” section your child preforms a task that they learned in the lesson.

Here you can see a sample page, and a demo video.

Our thoughts. . .

Monkey Man has done 12 of the 14 lessons. Due to a few family emergencies we couldn’t finish the last two. However, he really loved the program. He found it to be very informational and enjoyed it.

I really liked the way it was laid out. It was easy for him to understand, and I could leave him to work on it while I was doing other things. I also liked that if he had a problem, I could usually look over the work, and figure out what he didn’t do, or needed help with.

Since we didn’t get through all of the KidCoder: Windows Programming, we have yet to start KidCoder: Game Programming. So the best I can do is give you an overview of what it involves. (Though Monkey Man is very anxious to start it)

The KidCoder: Game Programming, is a 238 pg book. It also has 14 chapters that are then divided into 45 lessons.  You do need to have finished KidCoder: Windows Programming before doing this.

This program teaches your child how to write your own computer games.

What you will learn with this program. . .

  • Game Design
  • User Input
  • Screen Coordinates
  • Graphics and Drawing
  • Images and Animation
  • Sprites
  • Sound
  • Game Physics
  • and more!

Monkey Man is very excited to get to this! I love seeing him excited about what he can learn.

Price. . .

KidCoder Visual Basic Series – $120 (Courses Only)

KidCoder Visual Basic Series – $145 (Courses & Videos)

KidCoder Visual Basic Series – $30 (Videos Only)

You can find all the prices here. There are also options for buying semesters separately.

TOS Review: Math Mammoth Gold Series

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/2013TOSCrew/MathMammoth/logo_zps1488a12d.jpg

Math is one of the things we love in this house. So when we got the chance to review Math Mammoth, Gold Series. I was super excited!

Why you ask? Well, we have tried Math Mammoth before. I have to say we really like them. I was eager to try another part of there products. Monkey Man has always been ahead in math. Trying to find that perfect curricula for him has been really hard.

Now that he is venturing into pre-algebra, I’m worried that I won’t find the right one.

About Math Mammoth:

It is developed by Mara Miller. She is a math teacher that became a housewife, and homeschooler. She has a master’s degree in mathematics, and a minor in physics and statics. Mara started working on the books in 2002, and started selling them in 2003.

Her goal is to make the books with simple terms, but concentrating on the understanding of concept. The workbooks like the Blue Series, and Light Blue Series are good for homeschoolers since they are self-teaching.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/2013TOSCrew/MathMammoth/greengold_zpsffc54895.jpg

What is in the Gold Series:

We tried out the Gold Series this time. Which covers many grades. I opted to get Monkey Man the Grade 7 workbooks. They cover all pre-algebra topics. In book 7-A  (76pgs, 71 worksheets) you will find:

  • The Language of Algebra
  • Integers
  • Solving One-Step Equations
  • Factors and Fractions
  • Rational Numbers
  • Equations and Inequalities

We started with 7-A and I have to tell you I was so happy with the first section being about the language of Algebra. He went through them and got himself acquainted with them. This made it so much easier when he dove in.

We haven’t gotten to the second half yet, but the next part 7-B (86pgs, 80 worksheets) includes:

  • Proportion and Percent
  • Statistics and Graphs
  • Probability
  • Geometry
  • Right Triangles
  • Polynomials

Flipping through, I was very happy with the layout. Monkey Man is not a fan of word problems, so we may have a bit of a disagreement when we get to them!

If you are not sure where your child should be you can take a placement test here.

Our Thoughts:

Monkey Man really enjoyed this one. He liked the way it was laid out, and that each worksheet only concentrated on one thing. So he wasn’t totally overwhelmed. He did one worksheet a day, so we have only made it half way through the first workbook.

As a teacher the only complaint that I am not strong in math, so the answer book wasn’t the best for me. I couldn’t help him as easy when he got them wrong. I wish that it showed out the work, so I could walk him through it. Other than that, I really like the work.

Where to Buy:

You can find Math Mammoth Products at Kagi Store, CurrClick.com, Lulu, and Rainbow Resource.

They come as PDF files, so you will need Adobe Reader to view them.

Gold Series 7-A  is $7.75 Download & $2 for the Answer Key

Gold Series 7-B is $8.75 Download & $2 for the Answer Key

Or the Value Pack for Both and answer keys is $14.50

I really think that all Math Mammoth products are a great value! We will be buying more for sure!

News-O-Matic Review and Giveaway:

Do you worry about your kids hearing the wrong kind of news? Or that they won’t understand it?

When I was asked to review this new App, I was excited. Monkey Man loves to watch the news, and keep up on what is going on. The News-O-Matic App from Press4Kids helps keep the kids up to date, but in a kid friendly way. They bring current events to them and how they affect them in a age-appropriate way.

Press4Kids is a group of journalist, educators, and entrepreneurs. It was started in 2012 and works hard to inform children about current news and world events.

iPad Screenshot 1

News-O-Matic is targeted towards ages 7-10, however my 11 yr old really enjoyed it still. It is a week day newspaper App that includes five daily stories, detailed images, videos, maps, timelines, and games. It is updated everyday around 3:30 EST, so it is ready for when they get home from school. They even give them a hands on approach, by being able to interact with the Editor-in-chief. They can rate the stories, draw pictures, and ask questions. Don’t you know my son was right on their asking questions right away! (they were really great about answering them too)

iPad Screenshot 3
My kids were super excited to read “their” newspaper everyday to see what was going on around the world. They also liked to tell me about it. This was absolutely a highlight to their day!

This App is very easy to use, and your kids really learn a lot! Added bonus they get to learn it all without the added extra violence.

You can purchase this App on iTunes for your iPad or iPad Mini.  It is a bit steep in price… $49.99 for the year subscription, $6.99 a month, or $1.99 a week.
However, being a homeschooling mom. . . I think I could justify this for my kids for a year. Really great information.

You can find Press4Kids on Facebook and Twitter too.

How would you like to win a prize pack?
One of my readers can win a goody bag with a $10 iTunes gift card, backpack, hats, water bottles, and an iPad screen cleaner.

*I was provided with 3 issues News-O-Matic from Childs Play Communications and Press4Kids, and a goodie bag. All opinions are 100% mine or my monkeys.

Prepping for summer…

Are you ready for summer to be here?!

I know I am.. I am ready for that warm sun, flowers, playing in the water, and just plain having fun.

I think that I am in a big slump lately. I have been struggling with lots of areas in my life. I have not wanted to go to any of our extra activities, homeschool co-op, or anything. I just want to stay at home, and hibernate.

Which means I really need summer to get here. We have been on our break from school for a bit now, but we are getting ready to start back up soon. I need us to get back on our routine. What is a routine in summer? That is a good question. Normally we just add in some summer fun everyday.

Here in the northeast we have been getting some decent weather. Meaning cool mornings but really nice afternoons in the 70’s. We have really been enjoying it. The kids love being outside most of the day. Playing on the playground, prepping the garden, cleaning out the garage, or playing softball. Yup, we have found plenty of things to keep us busy in the nice weather.

We are anxious to go camping this year though. Do you like to camp? Do you go often? We haven’t been in a few years, so we are really hoping to get that opportunity this year.

Summer means. . . .

Camping
Swimming
Hiking
Playing
Balloon fights
BBQ’s
and time with friends.

What does it mean for you?

TOS Review: Home School in the Woods

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/2013TOSCrew/HSitW-NewLOGO-website_zps0d8de564.gif

Looking for another good lapbook company? We recently got the chance to review Hands-On-History: 20th Century in America Lap-Pak, by Home School in the Woods.

Have you ever done lapbooks before? We enjoy using them in our house. They are really great interactive ways to add to our learning. Upon receiving the option to review them, we got to choose between 3 different lapbooks. My son really enjoys history, so it was a tough decision for us. However, we agreed upon the 20th Century.

What was included:

For this review, I received a PDF download of the materials. Which works wonderfully on Adobe Reader. With this download we got:

Introduction and lists of additional resources
Booklet directions
Project directions
Lapbook assembly directions
Reading pages
Lapbook masters

Cost:

Download is available for $21.95
CD version is $22.95

This product is meant for grades 3-8, and is pretty on target with that. I used it with my two monkeys who are in 3rd, and 5th grade.

How we used it:

This is a very complete unit study. Which was wonderful, since we really just had to print and go. I printed one section off at a time for the monkey’s to work on.

We used this a few days a week, and used the additional resources to add a bit more to our learning. Reading a few books to go along with it.

We purchased some more file folders since we had run out, and started on it at once. Most things that you need to do a lapbook are already in your home. Most common things needed to assemble one are file folders, glue sticks, scissors, tape, pencils, markers, and sometimes brads. My kids love to cut and color, adding their own personality to the lapbook. So we always print on white paper in black and white. However, you could print on colored paper to add another dimension to it.

My kids really enjoyed learning about the 20th century history. Monkey Man loved learning more about the space shuttle Challenger. We have talked about it briefly a few times this year when we were talking about space. But to touch more on it, was very interesting to him.

Little Monkey really liked the recipes that came with the lapbook. She was very excited to try a few.

My thoughts:

Overall as a teacher I was very impressed with this study. It was very informational, and included everything we could possibly need. I also like that it gives you suggestions on how to teach it. As well as extra resources. It was right on target for my children’s ages, and they really enjoyed it. We were all very happy with it.

We strongly suggest that if you have not trying lapbooking yet to do so!

See what the other TOS Crew members have to say about it.

Review: Dial Kids Body & Hair Wash

http://www.purexinsiders.com/resource/resmgr/DK_BW/DK-ToolKit-Group-LRG.jpg

Do your kids go through tons of soap when they take a shower or bath? It seems like mine are always using mine up! I hate to buy anything good, for fear they will waste it.
As a Purex Insider, I recently got the chance to review Dial Kids Body & Hair Wash. Our family loves Dial products anyway, so we were excited to try this.
Dial has been around for 65 yrs developing personal care items. They have once again developed a product that is so much easier for parents. They have two different designs.

One for ages 2-5 which is great for kids that are not quite ready for the stregthen of adult soap. It is a tear free body and hair wash, with a light scent. This one comes in Peachy Clean!

Then there is the one designed for 6+ that has a more mild cleansing without drying their skin formula. These come in a Watery Melon, and Berry Cool scents. Here are a few other great benefits of them:
  • Tear Free
  • Hypoallergenic
  • No artificial dyes
  • Ph Balanced

My kids love these! It is a one stop kids wash! I love that my son can get in the shower now, and only have to worry about one bottle he needs to use for his body and hair. Makes him more independent, and my life easier! He also loves the scents they offer! His favorite so far is the Watery Melon.

You can purchase these family soaps at your local Walmart, Target, or Drug stores.

Or two of my lucky readers will win a coupon for a free bottle!

Review: Disney’s Shake It Up: I <3 Dance CD

Shake It Up I Heart Dance Album Sampler

What kid doesn’t like Disney right?

I recently received the Disney’s Shake It Up: I <3 Dance Cd to review. My girls went crazy! Once I opened the package and they saw what it was, they were jumping up and down, begging for me to play it.

My girls have only seen Disney’s Shake It Up! Show a couple of times, but knew who the stars Bella Thorne, and Zendaya were immediately! Guess I’m out of the loop! Ha-ha! On the Cd you will find a collection of 12 dance tracks from their third season of the show.

Here are a few of the stars you will hear on Shake It Up: I <3 Dance Cd. There are songs from Bella, Zendaya, Selena Gomez, Roshon Fegan, Caroline Sunshine, and Bridgit Mendler.

My girls loved the Cd, and beg to play it in my car all the time. I have to say their a a few songs even I have become fond of. It is a great little Cd. The girls favorite song was “Contagious Love” by Zendaya and Bella Thorne. I think I can sing the whole song now. (But I won’t cause my voice is horrible)

You can purchase the Shake It Up: I <3 Dance Cd from Amazon or iTunes for $9.99. Great gift idea!

*Thank you to Child’s Play and Disney for sending us this CD for review. All opinions are 100% mine or my monkey’s.

Horrid Henry Movie Review:

As a busy family, we are always looking for new movies to plan an easy movie at home. Nothing better than curling up with my monkeys on a Friday night, and watching a movie after a super busy week. What about you?!

After getting a really cool package in the mail, the kids were psyched to have a movie night. Along with the movie “Horrid Henry: The Movie” we got a hand buzzer, chattering teeth, and a Horrid Henry book. Plus $25 Gift Card for Walmart, to get goodies to go with our movie night.

About the Movie:

Horrid Henry: The Movie, is based on the popular children’s book series of the same name. It stars Theo Stevenson, as the major character. Henry is always getting himself into mischievous situations without even trying. He hates to do homework like any child, and it just stems from there. In the end Henry finds himself trying to save the very school he claims to hate.

This movie is an English family movie. Directed by Nick Moore, and has a great interesting cast of Theo Stevenson, Anjelica Huston, Parminder Nagra, and Richard E. Grant.

You can buy it at Walmart for $14.86.  Be sure to see more about the movie here.  This movie is a Phase 4 Film.

Our thoughts:

We watched the movie before reading the book. The kids were to excited to watch it. Horrid Henry was a very funny, and cute movie. We love how Henry just can’t stay out of trouble. Even when he wasn’t trying any tricks that were done, people assumed it was him. Kind of reminded me of a modern day Dennis the Mence. Was a nice family movie, for us to watch together. We would suggest it to others.

*We were given a copy of the film in order to write an honest review by Team Mom. All opinions are 100% mine or my monkey’s.

Christmas

Now that the crazy aftermath of Christmas is done.. I can blog about it! Lol.. It was probably one of the best Christmas’s we have had in awhile (except that I just wasn’t feeling the greatest).

For the first time in 5 yrs hubby was off for Christmas Eve.. That made an incredible difference. The day was filled with laughing, playing, eating, and just plain enjoying each others company. We played some board games, toys, and watched a few movies. With true Monkey Tradition we opened our Christmas Eve gift of Pj’s.. and put them on before reading our Christmas Story. We have been doing this tradition since Monkey man was a baby. This year we read “The Christmas Train” by Thomas Monson. It was good, and gave the kids a good thing to think about.

Hubby and I had some last minute presents to wrap, that we had lost and then found again! (Does that ever happen to you?)

On Christmas Morning the monkey’s were up way earlier than normal. I usually have to wake them up, I guess this year they were super excited! So we got up at 6am, popped in the French toast bake, I had made the night before into the oven. While it was baking we opened presents..

I couldn’t wait for Middle Monkey to see her Santa present. She has been asking for it for 3 yrs now. Can you believe she was SPEACHLESS? Oh, and her other favorite gift was the matching outfit for her and her doll. Aren’t they cute?

Next up was Little Monkey… She wanted nothing more than Lala Loopsy’s for Christmas this year. I had never heard of them, until a month ago when she started asking for them for Christmas. She got a big one, a Lala Loopsy Little, and a few tiny ones. She was so EXCITED!

Monkey Man didn’t really know what to ask for this year. His list was very light, so he got some Lego’s, a Lego Game, Lego Wii game (are you sensing a pattern here) and the newest book in the series he was reading. (Books are always at the top of his list)

Mommy and Daddy don’t usually have a lot of money left over to get presents for each other… so we just get a small gift from the kids. Then in a month or so when we can save up some money we get something big for each other.

As tradition that we started a few years ago.. (None of us liked being stuck in the kitchen all day to cook and clean… so we couldn’t enjoy Christmas.. That we started having Ham Italians for Christmas Lunch/Dinner) We enjoyed lunch, and played a few games. Then we headed to hubby’s brothers for Christmas Dinner this year. That was nice to catch up with everyone, and enjoy each others company. The kids showed off a few of their presents and had a great time.

We really couldn’t have asked for a better day. Did you enjoy your Christmas? What was your favorite gift?
