Donkey Kong Country DVD Review:

When I was a kid, and yes that was really a long time ago . . . I had the Donkey Kong game on the Nintendo. I loved it, but I could never conquer it. When I had kids of my own, I got it again for the DS. I still can’t get very far!

Recently I was given the opportunity to review the Donkey Kong Country Movie which is came out on DVD on August 20, 2013!!! Of course I had to check it out! I knew, my kids would just love it too.

What I got :

  • Donkey Kong Country DVD
  • 80’s Party Supplies

The party supplies were a pretty big hit with my girls! Little Monkey, loved the glasses!!

 IMG_20130828_133414_810

Little Monkey thought the fish net gloves were just “SO COOL”! Wouldn’t they be shocked to know that back in the 80’s they were super popular?!

About Donkey Kong Country DVD:

The movie is based on the cartoon series, and the popular video game. I never saw the cartoon series when I was growing up.

The DVD includes four episodes and runs approximately 90 minutes. The four episodes are:

  • Bad Hair Day
  • Ape Foo Young
  • Booty and the Beast
  • Barrel, Barrel, Who’s Got the Barrel

It is an animated movie, that looks a lot like a video game. Which makes sense, so its not super high quality. All and all if you ever played the video game, I think you will relate to this movie more. It really reminded me a lot of it, and it had the same cute music.

Our Thoughts:

My Monkey’s really loved watching it, and they did a lot of laughing. We thought it was super cute. I was a bit thrown by the outfit Donkey Kong’s girlfriend is wearing, and the dancing she was doing, but the kids didn’t really notice I don’t think. I don’t remember if this was in the original video game or not.

All and all, we really had a fun 80’s night watching Donkey Kong Country!

You can get this DVD at most retail stores for $9.99!

You can find more information at Kaboom Entertainment!

*We received the Donkey Kong DVD & Party package from Phase4Flims in exchange for our honest review. All opinions are 100% mine or my monkey’s.

The Berenstain Bears: Golden Edition Review

I don’t know about you, but finding good shows on TV for my kids is difficult these days. Cartoons are just not what they used to be when I was a child. (Yes, I know many moons ago that was)

Recently my monkeys and I got the chance to review The Berenstain Bears: Golden Brother Edition, as well as The Berenstain Bears: Golden Sister Edition in celebration of their 50th Anniversary!

My monkeys are a bit older now, but my youngest little monkey still loves her Berenstain Bears. So this was really more for her. Upon receiving them in the mail, she was so excited to open up the box! Containing her excitement was hard!

The Berenstain Bears: Golden Brother Edition comes in a cute box, with the movie and a small brother bear 10 inch plush. The DVD contains the story about Brother Bear and the many sports that he enjoys while being a role model. All taking place in bear country. The movie runs approximately 120 min.

Episodes in this DVD:

  • Catch the Bus
  • Jump Rope Contest
  • The Hiccup Cure
  • Moving Day
  • Double Dare
  • Lend A Helping Hand
  • The Big Election
  • Trouble with Money
  • At the Giant Mall
  • Showdown at Birder’s Wood
  • Grow It

The Berenstain Bears: Golden Sister Edition was no different! This one came in a nice gift box as well with the DVD, and a cute little Sister Bear 10 inch plush.  Sister bear is a cute spunky character. This movie also runs approximately 120 min.

Episodes on this Dvd:

  • Go up and Down
  • Count Their Blessings
  • Slumber Party
  • Homework Hassle
  • The In Crowd
  • Trouble at School
  • The Female Fullback
  • That Stump Must Go
  • Big Bear, Small Bear
  • Hug and Make Up
  • House of Mirrors

Little Monkeys Thoughts:

She absolutely loved these DVD’s. Her favorite two episodes were “The Hiccup Cure” cause she always has trouble with the hiccups. As well as “Slumber Party” since she is dreaming of a big slumber party with her friends when our house construction is finally done. Little Monkey really loves the music, and stories that the Berenstain Bears bring to our house.

I love that they teach such great values and lessons. Yet, my kids don’t see it as a lesson. They just think they are watching a fun show! I’m so happy that some of the great shows from my time have made their way back. I also loved that these two movies gave me and my Little Monkey a chance to have a nice movie evening to ourselves, while the other monkey’s were gone. Those moments came very far and few between.

Buy it:

You can purchase these special edition DVD’s at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in the U.S. They are $19.99 a piece.

We hope that you enjoy them as much as we did!

*Disclosure: All reviews and opinions on this blog are mine or my monkeys. As a member of Team Mom, I received both gift sets to review. I got no monitory compensation.

Horrid Henry Movie Review:

As a busy family, we are always looking for new movies to plan an easy movie at home. Nothing better than curling up with my monkeys on a Friday night, and watching a movie after a super busy week. What about you?!

After getting a really cool package in the mail, the kids were psyched to have a movie night. Along with the movie “Horrid Henry: The Movie” we got a hand buzzer, chattering teeth, and a Horrid Henry book. Plus $25 Gift Card for Walmart, to get goodies to go with our movie night.

DSC_0091

About the Movie:

Horrid Henry: The Movie, is based on the popular children’s book series of the same name. It stars Theo Stevenson, as the major character. Henry is always getting himself into mischievous situations without even trying. He hates to do homework like any child, and it just stems from there. In the end Henry finds himself trying to save the very school he claims to hate.

This movie is an English family movie. Directed by Nick Moore, and has a great interesting cast of Theo Stevenson, Anjelica Huston, Parminder Nagra, and Richard E. Grant.

You can buy it at Walmart for $14.86.  Be sure to see more about the movie here.  This movie is a Phase 4 Film.

Our thoughts:

We watched the movie before reading the book. The kids were to excited to watch it. Horrid Henry was a very funny, and cute movie. We love how Henry just can’t stay out of trouble. Even when he wasn’t trying any tricks that were done, people assumed it was him. Kind of reminded me of a modern day Dennis the Mence. Was a nice family movie, for us to watch together. We would suggest it to others.

*We were given a copy of the film in order to write an honest review by Team Mom. All opinions are 100% mine or my monkey’s.

Phase4Flims Review…

At the beginning of this month, I posted about some movies from Phase4Flims. Now I’m back to tell you about new ones coming out!

I Heart Shakey

The first movie we checked out was “I Heart Shakey”. This movie is 102 mins and rated PG. We thought this movie was good. It was another one that tugs on your heart strings a bit. Great story about the relationship between an owner and a dog though. This story is about a single dad, raising a daughter. The dog is like part of their family, so when they move to a big city, and face possibly having to get rid of Shakey they don’t know what to do. Our family really enjoyed this!

Rock Stars

The next one we watched was “Rock Stars”. This movie is 78 mins and is rated PG. This movie was a bit strange I thought. My kids however really thought it was good. Rock Stars is about an earthworm that wants to start a disco band. However, worms have no arms, so how can they carry a rhythm. Barry shows everyone that worms can boogie too!

My Friend Bernard

Lastly we got to watch “My Friend Bernard”. This movie is 70 mins and not yet rated. My family thought this movie was really good. It has some good lessons in it. My Friend Bernard is about a boy that is afraid of everything. His polar bear sidekick Bernard helps him to lose his fears.

You can purchase any of these movies at Target, Walmart, Amazon.com, or rent them at your local Redbox. So why not have a family movie night soon??!

*We were given a copy of these movies by Phase4flims, and Child’s Play Communications in exchange for our honest review. All reviews are 100% mine or my monkey’s.

Phase4flims Review…

We recently got an opportunity to review 5 movies, that came out in July by Phase4flims. Due to our crazy schedule and such, I’m just getting the review up.

My kids love movies as does any child! So when the box arrived, and we opened it up.. they started digging through to see what we received. Then they started making plans about what movie we were going to watch first. In our house we try to have a movie night a few times a month. Doing a simple movie night, helps bring us all closer. We enjoy our nights together!

DSC_0002

Here are the movies we got to see and what we thought of them…

Space Dogs:

Space Dogs

This movie really wasn’t what I was expecting. It was a cute move done about a few orphan dogs. Striving to fit in, and learning about friendship. Great little life lessons in this movie that the kids will probably not realize right away that they are learning. I love movies like that, since they can get a bigger lesson out of them. My kids really enjoyed this, and we all had a few laughs over it.

Kiara the Brave:

Kiara

This was nothing like what I first thought either. Maybe it was just the name, and it sort of reminded me of the movie “Brave”.  Instead this movie was more of a battle to save the kingdom and protect everybody. My kids enjoyed this characters but not one of their favorites.

Smitty:

Smitty

This movie was a huge hit. We LOVED this movie! This movie just instantly touched our hearts. It really tugs at your memories. Any person who has had a dog would relate to this movie. On more than one occasion my son and I were sniffling. Definitely a keeper!! We will re-watch this movie again and again!

Freddy Frog Face:

Freddy Frogface

This movie touched on a big problem happening in our local schools. It is about “Bullying”. The characters were interesting. This was an animated movie like a few of the others. This movie was not one of my kids favorites.

Donkey X:

Donkey X

This movie was a cute animated movie. It was funny! The donkey was trying to be like a horse, so he could get into the royal castle. He won the hearts of many in this film. While this movie was cute, it wasn’t another one of our favorites.

If you would like to see any of these movies, you can find them at Amazon, Walmart, or you can rent them at your local Redbox!

Redbox Review:

image

Do you watch a lot of movies?? Our family loves to watch movies. The problem? Well, it costs anywhere from $50-$100 for our family to go to the movies at the Theater…the higher end if we get popcorn, candy and a soda. Nuts! Therefore, meaning that we don’t go often.

Luckily we are back in our hometown, so we are lucky to have two good theaters about 20 mins from us, and they aren’t as bad with a Matinee.

Back on track… that still is a very rare thing we do. So for us to watch a movie we use Redbox. Most of the video stores in our have closed. Not that we rented from them much, since the cost went up drastically. At the end it was like $5 a movie per night. That is CRAZY!

We now love the abilty to go and rent a movie from the Redbox. We have one at the local grocery store here in town. Another great feature that we LOVE is that you can return the movies to any Redbox location. Which means if I’m out and about it doesn’t have to go to that particular box, or if I don’t need to go anywhere I can just drop it off at the local one.

They have a wide selection of new and older movies, usually. They have regular and Blu-ray movies, as well as video games for all the newest systems.

106_6074

The other great thing about Redbox is that you can rent a movie for $1 per night, as long as you return your movie by 9pm the next day. Which means a cheap movie night for us. As we usually have to rent 2 movies, one for us, and one for the kids.

They also have a program where you sign up for text messages on your mobile phone and they will send you a code every month for a free movie. Or sometimes they have promotions where you can get anywhere from .25 cents to $1 off your movie.

You can find Redbox on Facebook and Twitter.

Go enjoy a movie tonight!

*I received a free nights rental in exchange for this review through Smiley 360.

Barbie A Fashion Fairytale Movie Review:

Barbie Movie

On September 14th, Barbie A Fashion Fairytale Movie was released on DVD. Does your child love Barbie?? I know my girls do. We now almost have the complete collection of all the Barbie Movies ever made.

I was not a huge fan of them getting the movies at first… but then I sat down and watch one with them. I was impressed to see that each Barbie movie has some kind of lesson in them for the girls to learn. Even as little as they are, learning through Barbie about life lessons is always fun.

Barbie A Fashion Fairytale is no different… In this movie…Barbie™ and her dog Sequin™ jet off to visit her Aunt's amazing fashion house in Paris, and much to Barbie's surprise it's about to be shut down forever! After she discovers three enchanting Fairies™ with sparkle-magic powers, Barbie comes up with a brilliant idea to save the business.  She even inspires Alice, a shy fashion designer, and together they create a dazzling together, they create a runway fashion show.

The DVD also includes a Music Video and Trailer Gallery. As well as funny out takes.

My girls were just excited and happy with this movie, as they were with all the others.. My oldest going on 7 still loves these movies. This one came out just in time for her birthday! If you have a Barbie lover, you should definitely put this movie on your Christmas list for that special girl.

Be sure to also be looking for these beautiful Barbie A Fashion Fairytale Transforming Fashion Doll…

The next family night…

is your family big on doing things together?? Or are you trying to get them together to do more??

Either way you might want to check this out! NBC has been trying to help get families together this summer with Movies. The first was “Secrets of the Mountain” which sadly we missed, cause I would have loved to see this one.

Well the next one is called “The Jensen Project”. Which will be airing July 16, 2010 @ 8pm on NBC. For more information on this movie, you can see a trailer for it Here! All of these movies have been presented to you by Walmart & P&G Products to help families get together.

I think this movie looks like a great movie to sit and share some popcorn with. Be sure to check it out and plan a great night with your family.

Mom, can I have a pet Dragon?

is what I was expecting to hear my son say after we got home from watching “How to Train Your Dragon”.

After an exciting day at his birthday party, and having a friend back to play with his new Lego’s… we also decided to take him to see “How to Train Your Dragon”. He has been asking to see it since it came out in the Theatre’s.

It was a very cute movie. I won’t get into many details, cause I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. It will definitely be one we buy on DVD for home when it comes out.

A must see for your young dragon trainer at home!!!

Free Movies for the summer??

img_freeFamilyFilmFestival

Are you looking for something fun to do over the summer, that isn’t going to break the bank??

I know that I am!! My kids get cabin fever pretty fast here in FL. It tends to be to hot out, for them to really want to get out and play to much. Therefore, I am trying to always come up with some ideas for the summer. To keep us going and not get to bored.

Well one idea that we like is that Regal Cinema’s offer FREE movies on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings at 10am. They are not new releases, but good movies just the same. Just go HERE and put in the state you live in, and it will show you each cinema’s schedule for the summer. I see a few weeks we will be enjoying a visit to the movies.

I’m always looking for fun, free or inexpensive ideas for the summer. So if you have any to share please do!!!

Enjoy!

Alvin & the Chipmunks the Squeakqueal

After a few weeks of really cold weather...we were so ready to get out of the house. So, after school on Friday, we decided to take the kids out for the night. We went to dinner.... Then we headed off to Downtown Disney.

It was gorgeous out..warm with a cool breeze. Prefect for walking around for the evening. I was so excited to see that they put in a new store.. LITTLE MISS MISMATCHED!!! I have been looking through that store online for awhile now! So, when I saw it I went crazy!

What a great picture to see!!!

From there you have to know our next stop was the Lego store. My kids ABSOLUTE favorite store! They built a few things and then raced a few cars!

After that we headed over to a dance party.. oh what fun that was. The girls of course had a blast, and Andy & I laughed so hard! The Dj was so freaking funny! Absolutely a wonderful time!

Next up was to watch the Movie. We caught a late one, cause we weren't sure we'd make the 6:45pm. So, we saw the 9pm show. The kids was so excited! They couldn't wait to see the Girl Chipmunks! Sage pry'd her eyelids open to stay awake, and well Rachel didn't make it. She passed out in a few minutes of the movie starting. Hunter made it through the whole thing. Rachel was a bit upset at the end when she figured out she missed it, but dealt with it pretty good.

All and all it was a great night, and we had a great time. Wonderful family time! What did you do this past weekend???

Have you kissed a frog??

No?? Why not?? Does the slime stop you dead in your tracks?? I know, it would me!

We don’t often go to the movies, but some friends of ours managed to get us two free tickets to see the Princess and the Frog. How was I going to say no?? The kids had been asking to see it. For them going to the movies is a VERY special treat.

The kids in front of the movie poster

That was our celebration that we made it to the start of vacation. Now lets hope the kids are able to behave for the duration of the vacation so we can celebrate the end!!!

I must say this movie was very cute… we didn’t get the best seats in the house, cause the place was packed, so the only spot available for 5 people, was right up in the front 2nd row back from the screen. I think my neck still hurts!  The movie was a good one, sorta like a Cinderella story, but with a twist. It had a bit of dark spots in it with the Voodoo guy, but nothing to scary. My girls were perfectly fine, and loved it. Hunter liked it even though it was a bit girly he said! (getting to old for those I guess??)

All and all it was a fabulous night, and the kids were excellent for the movie, and ate lots, and lots of popcorn. They even fell asleep before we made it home.

Next they want to see Chimpmunks the Squeakquel, Sherk the final, and there were a few others they said looked good. I wish it was a bit cheaper so we could go more often… however, it usually costs us 60-70 dollars by the time it is said and done…

Friday Nights:

Since the cost of everything is so high these days… and getting out of the house to do anything as a family has to be pretty well thought over. We make every other Friday a movie night at our house. The kids pick a movie, we make homemade pizza, and usually have something special for a snack.

Did you know for a family of 7 it costs nearly $60 for you to see a movie at the Theatre…(and that does not include snacks) We have converted to using the Redbox where you only pay a dollar to rent a movie… and if for some reason it is late the next day its only a dollar late charge. Can’t beat that right??? Plus you can go only to reserve a movie and have it ready to pick up at your favorite Redbox location.

Our movie choice

The kids choose “Benji off the leash” for this past movie night. We all enjoyed it, and laughed at how clever a dog can be! Here a few more shots of our night:

Hunter on Movie night

Hunter all snuggled in to watch the movie!

Our new popcorn containers

Our cool popcorn containers (found in the $1 spot at Target)

Rachel on Movie night

Rachel ready for the movie to get going!

Sage on Movie night

Sage always posing for her picture! (excuse her mouth full of food)

What are some low cost family activities you enjoy doing?? We are always looking for new ideas!

Looking for a new movie to watch???

Out new on Tuesday Jan 27th…. was the sequel to Open Season. Every other Friday is our family movie night. My kids begged to watch Open Season 2 tonight. It is a good comedy if you are looking for a laugh. Some adult humor, but they keep it good for children. The movie is rated PG for mild rude humor. Its not one of my favorites for a family movie, but it is good for a laugh.

Then after the kids went to bed we watched FIREPROOF! I have heard such good things, about this movie, so I was dying to watch it. It was a truly inspiring movie. It made me laugh, and it made me cry. I love it! Only if we all were that true to ourselves. I suggest this movie to any couple to watch. With Valentine’s day coming up, husbands prefect gift for your wife. Now, quick go rent it or buy it!
