Tos Review: Memoria Press- Frist Form Latin

I was very excited to get this review. My son has been really on board with Latin lately. He really enjoyed a pervious review, but we needed a bit more.

So Memoria Press First Form Latin  by Cheryl Lowe was what we wanted to try. When we got the box in the mail it was like Christmas! Look at all the contents! I was shocked, and eager to get started!

I immediately started flipping through the books, and was tempted to start right then. Smile

What I really liked about the program right off the bat, was I could teach it with no Latin Background. I was never lucky enough to take that in school, so it has been hard to help him with other programs, cause I wasn’t one hundred percent sure. There is no need to have previous knowledge with this one, while I’m sure it would still be a plus.

The contents include:

  • A cd with all lesson work on it
  • An Instructional Dvd
  • A Teachers Manual (Workbook & Test Key)
  • Teachers Manual
  • Quizzes & Tests
  • Student Text
  • Student Workbook
  • Flash Cards

We dove right in the following week, and he has enjoyed it. While he gets frustrated sometimes he has done very well. It is a bit more book work than we anticipated, and while he is not always on board with that.. We are making it work.

I don’t think that I could use it with my girls, they would never sit and listen enough for that. Monkey man is more of a sponge and can handle sitting and listening if it is not an everyday occurrence. As of right now, we are doing our lessons only twice a week.

The website states: After mastering First Form, the student will have a solid grasp on the six indicative active tenses of the first two verb conjugations, five noun declensions, first and second declension adjectives, and 185 vocabulary words.

First Form Latin is designed for students 5th grade and up. While Monkey man is technically in 4th, but is doing 5th & 6th grade work, this program works ok with him. However, I’m sure it would work with every 5th grader, it really depends on their personality.

First Form Latin can be order on Memoria Press site, and it is $55.00 for Teachers Manual and Workbooks, $115 if you want to add the DVD’s and Flashcards to it. They also stand behind their work, and offer a 60 day money back grantee.

You can also find First Form Latin on Twitter & Facebook.

*I was given First Form Latin Curriculum from Memoria Press through the TOS Crew, in exchange for my honest opinion. My opinions are 100% mine and my monkeys.

1. What movie do you love to quote?

Pretty Woman, and Cars

2. Have you ever ridden a motorcycle?

No, I have not. I’m not a fan of them.. when I was a child my uncle died on one, and it has just stuck with me all my life.

3. What's your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?

Watch a movie, read a book, or cook with my kiddo’s.

4. Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts, or one really big, (expensive) gift?

Depends on the year, and what I really want. Sometimes all I want is one really expensive gift.

5. Do you ever lose track of days and show up somewhere wrong?

I lose track of days all the time, but never showed up somewhere on the wrong day. (Yet, give it time)

Day 4:

Today I am grateful for my hubby having a job. While we struggle with a large amount of our money going out in gas.. It could be a lot worse and he could not have a job at all.

While looking for a new job closer to home, our thoughts and prayers go out to those that are struggling to find work at all.

Day 3:

Today I am super thankful for my family.. They may drive me a bit insane daily, but they are what keep me going.

I have one amazing boy, that is bright, kind, caring, and adorable! He makes me very proud!

Then I have two girls, who couldn’t be anymore different. Middle Monkey is a smart, strong willed, but determined child. She is emotional and very loving, but struggles with Sensory Issues. She has a beautiful smile, and loves to help!

Little Monkey is my baby… and she loves to be with her mommy. She is the clown of the family, and loves to keep everyone smiling. She is friendly, smart, and very caring. Beautiful inside and out!

My hubby.. well like any hubby is a pain in my butt. However, works hard to give me the opportunity to stay home with my kiddo’s. He stands behind me and supports me even if he doesn’t always agree.

1. Who taught you how to cook?

My grandmother and my mother…. I loved watching my gram cook when I was little. And my mother teaches me to cook all the time, we love to try new recipes together!

2. Have you been told you think too much? Are too much of a perfectionist? Are too sensitive? Were they right?

Yes, I have been told I think to much. My brain never shuts off! Not a perfectionist, but I am getting worse in my old age. Sensitive, yes that I am.. I take everything to heart, and will cry at the drop of a hat.

3. As a child did you have a favorite blanket or toy? Tell about it.

I don’t remember to be honest. I think, I may have had a toy. But not really sure.

4. What 'institution' do you have the most faith in?

Honestly… I’m not really sure.

5. Chrysanthemums-pansies-burning bush-ornamental cabbage...your favorite in an autumn garden?

I would have to say Chrysanthemums. Smile

We don’t have any kids in our neighborhood. We live in the woods! I love it that way…then my kids aren’t easily influenced.

7. Are you a fan of the cranberry?

Not Cranberries, but love Cranberry sauce! Yum!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only 22 more days away?? I have so much planning to do for the dinner. Must get on that. Smile

Day 2…

I’m thankful for my friends. Without them there are days I would be lost. Its so nice to hear that cheery voice, or that encouraging smile, to remind me I’m not alone.

I have some amazing old friends, that I have been friends with for 15-20 yrs. These are more like my sisters. No matter how often I talk to them, I know if I needed them they would be there in a heart beat.

Then I have a few special ones I made a couple of years ago while living in Florida. They are amazing too! One of them I just clicked with so well… she has been an amazing blessing in my life. I don’t know, what I would do without her. The other one, is a great lady that I got to know who has encouraged me along the way with Homeschooling. We may not talk often, but again I know she is there if I ever need advice. I miss them both dearly!

I’ve also made a few new ones, over the last couple of months. I’m a huge people person, but I will tell you I’ve never been very popular, or had a lot of friends that were “True” friends. So I have a hard time trusting people. I have been very thankful over the last couple of months to make a few new friends that have made my transition (yes even after a year) a bit more comfortable.

I’m truly blessed, sometimes I just have to remind myself of that.

Gratitude Post #1

Today is the first day of November… Can you believe it??

I have participated in this a few times, unfortunately I usually didn’t keep up, and didn’t finish. I am going to try really hard this time to finish! Smile

So on this first day I am thankful for my mom… She is a huge inspiration to me. She is dealing with so many things right now, but she doesn’t let it keep her from trying to stay positive. As many of you probably read in my posts a year ago, we decided to move back to help my mom. My Step-father has Altimizers, and so we can back to help her take care of the house, and do things she couldn’t keep up with. Despite that, she continues to help me everyday! She still tries to spend quality time with her grandkids and be an inspiration to them. I’m so very proud to call her my mom!
