TOS Crew Review: Speekee TV

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TOSCrew2011/Speekee/speekeebanner.jpg

Isn’t that a catchy name? Really makes you stop and take notice, to see what it is. Speekee TV is a online program to teach Spanish. We have dabbled in foreign language a bit here and there. We haven’t been able to find any programs that fit us yet. Spanish is our first choice, since it is more commonly used in the US. I want to teach the kids a language that they are going to utilize.

Upon first watching Speekee TV, I wasn’t sure this was the right choice. It reminds me of a child’s cartoon. It caught the kids interest, so we continued on. The video’s are interesting.

Along with the Speekee TV, you get weekly emails with extra learning ideas. The emails are called Speekee FastTrack and contain more things for you to do along with watching the episodes. This comes free with your subscription. Each week gives you 4 activities to do, such as worksheets and other downloads. This really helps, cause the I don’t think the video’s alone are enough.

How Speekee TV works

There is 10 episodes with Spanish Children. With lots of music, that the kids love to sing along too. Then you have Activity sheets that help with the visual learning. This program is recommended for ages 2-10.

Price

You can try Speekee TV out free for the first two weeks. Then there is a charge of $7.50 a month. Or you can get a year subscription for $60.00. If your not happy with it, you can cancel your membership at anytime!

What we thought

My kids which are 7,8, and 10 have enjoyed this program. My daughters had already started learning Spanish in their public school, before we started homeschooling. So they had the basic’s down, and new a few phrases.

My son wants to learn Chinese, so he was a bit more hesitant about trying this out. Once we got going, and used this weekly he started coming around.

I think that they have a great way to engage the kids, and the Spanish speaking kids help for them to learn the accent better. I really am impressed with this program. I enjoyed watching the video’s with my kids. We have had fun singing the songs along with the video.

We are excited to finish our lessons!

Not Back to school photo’s….

Since my kids don’t attend public school, we don’t have school pictures done as often as I used to. I try to stay on top of that, cause when I look at the wall I’m always thinking, where is there newest pictures!! LOL

A local friend of mine, offers to take them every year as well. However, being the budding photographer that I am, and always looking to learn new things I like to take my own as well. Here is my attempt for this year…

Monkey Man’s mishap…

So almost a month ago now..

Monkey Man was outside playing with his cousins, during our family reunion. The next thing I know, he comes in saying his hand hurts. I looked at it, and it looked sore, so I gave him some ice.

He went on to play on the slip and slide for a few hours. So, I’m thinking it was minor and he was ok. Yup, I was wrong. Upon coming home from dropping the hubby off at a meeting. Monkey Man was still hurting. Ice hadn’t made the swelling go down.. Since he was mainly complaining about his finger, I was really concerned with the fact that the swelling in his hand had not gone down.

(See the swelling on the top of the hand)

I decided to go to the ER, to be on the safe side. Upon arriving they took him straight to the x-ray department. Then brought us into quick care. The nurse was pretty sure that he broke it. So, we were preparing for the worst.

One the doctor came in, she looked it over. The x-ray didn’t show a break on the finger, but he had chipped his growth plate. (UGH) They decided to put him in a half cast, to help keep his finger steady. He was not impressed. He had to stay in it until we saw the Orthopedic. I couldn’t get him in until the following week. So he was in the half cast for two weeks.

(So not impressed)

When we finally saw the Orthopedic they saw another x-ray. On his x-ray they didn’t see the chip they originally thought was there. However, their might have been a slight shadow, wouldn’t know further until some healing started. So, we had to leave again with a new device on his hand. He was outfitted with a splint. This time he was stuck with it for a week.

IMAG0903

(Getting better)

This was even worse, because he could move his fingers and use his hand. Which meant he kept trying to do things he shouldn’t be doing. (typical child of course)

After a week, we headed back to see the Orthopedic and get the verdict. Monkey Man was very nervous, but we were hopefully cause his hand looked 100 times better. It was determined that their was not facture, no chip, no nothing! He must have just sprained his finger REALLY bad. So, off came the splint. The doctor told him it would be a couple weeks more before it was fully healed, and that he needed to do some therapy on it. Doctor told him for therapy… to put his hand in hot soapy water after dinner and wash the dishes! (FOR REAL) Loved it!!! Monkey Man, was not impressed, but has been doing it, without complaint! Very proud of him!

FOR TODAY

September 3, 2012

Outside my window...

It is nice and sunny! Going to be another beautiful day! I can’t believe it is the first Monday in September already! Where has the year gone?!

I am thinking...

Wow, time sure is flying! Another month and Middle Monkey will be 9!!!

I am thankful for...

All the wonderful days we had to spend together this summer! We had a full, fun, and adventurous summer. We are looking forward to planning out next year’s already!

From the learning rooms...

This week we started back up again. We took a couple weeks off due to Monkey man’s hand injury, since he couldn’t write.

We are doing things a tad bit different this time, by in cooperating the Workbox system.  I am hoping this is going to encourage more independence and responsibility.

Want to see what else we are up to, stop by our blog here.

From the kitchen...

Not sure what is on the menu for tonight.. We are trying to cut all Sugar from Middle Monkey’s diet, and two of my kids can’t have milk, and my need for less carbs, our kitchen is becoming interesting!

Thank goodness it is summer, and we have lots of fresh fruits and veggies!

I am wearing...

My shorts, one of my new tank tops, and flip flops (the season for them will soon be over.. sniff, sniff)

I am creating...

Nothing at the moment. Just finished with our Workbox System, and a new Chore Chart. So, I’m taking a break for a few days!

I am going...

to be really busy again this week. Lots happening, things are starting back up! Planning needing to be done.. Phew!

I am reading...

The Lakeshore Chronicles by Susan Wiggs. On the second book right now!

I am hoping...

To enjoy my favorite season coming up. Fall is so nice.. Lovely walks, pumpkins, apples, great pictures to be had. OH I just love it!

I am hearing...

Lots of chatter! My kids are discussing what is on their chore list for today.

Around the house...

We are doing pretty good. With the new chore list, things are going a lot smoother. I’m very happy to see the cooperation. Makes my life a lot easier!

One of my favorite things...

Spending time with my Monkeys.. I can’t wait for some of our fun field trips coming up.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Time with my monkey’s, Doctor appts, Co-op, more doctor appts, farmers market, and meetings.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing..
