Girl Scouts Celebrate 100 yrs!!!

 

 

 

On March 12, 2012 Girl Scouts officially had its 100th Birthday! Can you believe that? 100 yrs of Girls learning to be strong, determined, responsible adults. I’m very proud to be part of this huge group.

Our local Service Unit got together with a neighboring one, and we set to work on a 100th Birthday Celebration. I not thinking clearly again, decided to help with this committee.

After months of work, and lots of people putting in some work, we had our Celebration on April 21st. It wasn’t exactly what I was thinking it would be, but it was a nice event, and lots of Girls attended.

One of our local Juniors designed the patch for us, and she did an amazing job. What do you think?

 

There were decade tables set up… Here is the one my Co-leader and I worked on (mostly my co-leader, did I mention she is amazing?)

We did origami for our activity…

 

Others did planting flowers, coloring, jump roping, mini sit-upons, and such.

They had a really cool era room, with stuff from way, way back! Isn’t this Brownie Uniform cool? I wish that they still had the jumper.. I think it is cuter than the skirt they have now.

 

It was a long, but nice day. The girls had a blast!

Why, I have not been writing as much this month…

 

 

One of my commitments is being a Girl Scout Leader, which I’m sure you have heard me talk about a few times (or more).

Well that generally means for the whole month of March, I’m running around like a crazy lady, trying to find where I left my brain behind. LOL!

Why you ask??! Well, its cookie month. Which for me means, dropping off cookies, counting cookies, picking up more cookies, and becoming a cookie! Yup, lots of cookies in there.  

Please we are doing a bit of this…

Oh, and did I mention beyond being a leader, I also have another girl in another troop! Which means twice the running around.. (luckily this year they did not do a cookie booth)

So, forgive me, but I will be better about getting posts up after this month. Don’t forget to support your local Girl Scout Troop, and eat some yummy cookies!

Little Monkey’s Daisy Christmas Party

 

 

 

So you know the only downfall to running a troop and having a daughter in both yours and another troop? That you can’t be in two places at once. My brownie troop went to the Animal Shelter to volunteer on the same day as Little Monkey’s Christmas/awards party. Therefore, daddy had to fill in for me. (which just isn’t the same, I hate missing these things)

 

They went around town and sang Christmas Carols to the people at the Town Office, and Post Office. Then they had some goodies, and got some awards, and badges they had been working on over the last few months.

 

 

Only bad thing? Her smock is completely full in the back, so I’m going to have to figure out another spot to put them.

Going back in time….

 

 

that is what we did this weekend. We took a trip to a Living History Museum here in Central Maine. It was owned by a magnificent family and they have accomplished so much!

They keep the museum open to show everyone, what it was like, in the 1800’s. My daughter’s Girl Scout Troop decided to go experience it.

We enjoyed a lesson in history from a volunteer that takes on the roll of one of the youngest daughters. She took on character so well, it was confusing me at first. Lol..

We also enjoyed some simple pleasures, such as stringing popcorn and decorating the tree with it. Enjoying molasses cookies, and hot apple cider.

 

 

Went on a horse and carriage ride.. and saw the beautiful grounds and scenery! It was great!

 

 

Then we took a trip back in time to the school. Boy was school different back then, not so sure that kids these days could handle it. She explained to them, that they were no grades, they just completed books, and as they did, they went on. When they answered math questions they had to do it in long form. With since, since, and therefore. I would go nuts! Then the kids participated in a spelling bee. Little Monkey got one wrong, and had to write it on the slate 10 times. She got the next one right though! She was so proud of herself.

 

 

They had a great time! Wonderful time with great friends!!!

Girl’s First Daisy Sleepover

 

 

First off, I have to say… My girl’s had the best Daisy Leaders ever! They were amazing with these girls, and are so awesome!

They planned a really cool sleepover! We had so much fun!

Friday we arrived, and went on a scavenger hunt. Can never go wrong with that right?? After snack time, we built a stone fire pit.  Which was very amusing, but we did it! Next up was dinner, and then we got ready for our fire, and S’Mores!!! Yum!!!

 

Saturday after we woke up and had breakfast… And the mommy’s had coffee to keep going! We were off and running! We had some activities and then got the fire pit going to get ready for the ceremony, and bridging!

Around noon, the daddy’s starting showing up. We started the ceremony where to the Daisy’s got their patches….. and the Brownies, did their bridging.

 

 

Littlest Monkey is still a Daisy! She was so excited to get her patches. Middle Monkey bridged to Brownies and is beyond excited. She will now be in my troop. I’m super proud of them both! Great jobs girls!

Girl Scout fun…

 

 

was had by all that attended today! Some of the cute little Daisy’s from my troop attended a Dancing Daisies event today. Really one of our first real events we have attended since starting our troop this past false.

The girls had a blast. They did some dancing, and some crafts. What is better?? Especially to a 5 yr old!

Our First Official Girl Scout Trip

 

 

Wow, it seems really weird that my kids are old enough to be heading out on trips with the Girl Scouts! Where has the time gone?? They are so cute in their uniforms though! :)

Last night we headed to a local city, and watched a baseball game. The girls were able to go out and do a pregame parade…but our girls found a balloon guy that makes hats… Yup, that was far more interesting! Well, see for yourself!

After the game, we got to set up our tent on the field… and snuggle in for a movie on the big screen. The girls were super excited! Here are a few shots from our night…

 

 

We had a great time! Despite not going to sleep at all, and the girls being up til 2am. But Hey! That is part of the fun right??? We are excited to do way more things with the Girl Scouts over the years!

Camp Training:

 

As you have read in previous post… this past weekend, I attended a Camp Training event for Girl Scouts.

Now I love to camp, so this was not something I was dreading. However, we have not done much camping since we left Maine. So, I was dreading the creepy crawlies that come along with Florida.

Cara & I set out Saturday morning around 6:30am.. so we could stop and get breakfast before heading to camp. After a quick confusion, we figured out where we were suppose to be… and checked in.

After getting our stuff dropped off in the lodge, we got our schedule. Sat and started to learn. Got lots of info! After our book part of it, we stopped for lunch… and had some time to explore. Then we gathered around the campfire circle.

Where we then learned to build fires… which was pretty interesting. I must say that Cara and I did wonderful. After some further discussion… it was time to start in on dinner plans. Learned how to do different cooking styles. We made Foil packs, and made a one pot dinner.

The rest of the night was basically discussion .. and then of course dessert, which we had awesome Banana boats!!! YUM!

 

After a pretty decent nights sleep, we cleaned up this morning, packed, and headed to the car. On our way home as a Mother’s Day present to ourselves, we stopped at Cold Stone for ice cream. A wonderful end to a great weekend…

Our First Girl Scout Event:

 

on Saturday we went to Rachel’s first Girl Scout event. Rachel was excited even though, not knowing what to expect. This was her and Sage’s first Jamboree. They had a blast. Complete with plenty of activities. They did things from answering trivia questions, learn about recycling, throw a softball, and do a wheel barrow race! It was funny to watch, but great to see their expressions of joy, when they got something right, or learned to do something new. Here are a few pictures…..

 

They won two 3rd place ribbons, one 2nd place, and two first place!
